Movies & Videos

Visit our Youtube Page for a collection of lots of great videos that can be viewed for free.  We have playlists for recommended videos, speeches by Dr. King, videos about Kingian Nonviolence, and much more.

In addition, we recommend these documentaries about nonviolence and/or the Civil Rights Movement:

A Force More Powerful
A two-disc set documenting various nonviolent movements from around the world.  The website also has some helpful resources and links to the accompanying book.

The Children’s March
One of our favorite documentaries about the Civil Rights Movement, this film shows the power of children as they lead the Montgomery campaign to international renown.  The DVD can be requested for free to any educator.

Freedom Rides
A PBS documentary on one of the most courageous campaigns during the Civil Rights Movement.  The entire film can be viewed for free on its website, which is filled with helpful resources.

The Power of Forgiveness
This film documents powerful examples of forgiveness from the perspective of several faith traditions.  As Azim Khamisa, who lost a son to gun violence, explains, “forgiveness is something you do for yourself.”

Brother Outsider
A documentary about the life of Bayard Rustin, an openly gay civil rights activist who was organizing long before Dr. King came into the picture.

Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years
A PBS series documenting the many aspects of the Civil Rights Movement.  The series can be viewed online here.

Bringing Down a Dictator
A documentary about the student led Otpor! movement, which brought down dictator Slobodan Milosevic.

Pray the Devil Back to Hell
An award winning film, Pray the Devil Back to Hell chronicles the remarkable story of the courageous Liberian women who came together to end a bloody civil war and bring peace to their shattered country.
