Searching for a nonviolent way to live, Hakusho found himself drawn to organic farming and Buddhism during his college years. Born in Sweden, this call eventually brought him to Green Gulch Farm Zen Center in California, where both these disciplines could be further cultivated.
Now an ordained zen priest and teacher, he remains in residence there, currently serving as the head of the meditation hall. Realizing that his own attempts to embody the Buddhist precepts too often tend to stop at restraint, thus missing opportunities to actively contribute towards a positive change, Hakusho sees how to courageously and compassionately approach conflict as a pivotal practice, both on a personal, relational, or societal level.
